About This Painting

Immerse yourself in the enchanting and precarious beauty of Venice with Oleg Kateryniuk's "High Water. Venice - A Beach City." This oil painting vividly captures the city's struggle and resilience during the Acqua Alta, the periodic flooding that transforms its streets into waterways. Measuring 70x50 cm, this piece not only depicts a physical phenomenon but also raises awareness about the environmental challenges threatening this historic city.

Artistic Insights

The canvas portrays Venice as it confronts its identity as a potential 'beach city,' with its famous architecture and byways submerged under lagoon waters. The artist uses a palette that reflects the city's watery veneer and the ominous overtones of its conservation issues. The floodwaters, while highlighting the city’s vulnerability, also mirror the adaptability and enduring charm of Venice and its inhabitants.

About the Artist

Oleg Kateryniuk was born in 1969 in Ukraine.. has made a successful career as a graphic designer.. But, over the years we become more sensitive to people, to nature, to the environment, to everything around us. So something happened, noticed, interested you and sits in you, with its emotions, feelings, its truth and philosophy.. no-no, it does not bother you, just sometimes, as if talking to you, tells your story, pulls your strings souls, and are forced to flee in search of something new, still unnoticed, and very, as it seems at this time, so necessary.. and not only you.. And in such moments you take a pencil, brushes and everything at hand.. and you draw.. being left alone with canvas or paper and your thoughts.

Symbolism and Interpretation

Kateryniuk’s work is more than an artistic portrayal; it is a commentary on the impacts of climate change and the resilience of human culture amidst ecological challenges. "High Water. Venice - A Beach City" reflects on the dualism of destruction and beauty, the ephemeral and the eternal, making it a powerful piece for reflection.
