About the artist: Evert Collier was born in Breda, in the province of North Brabant. He studied painting in Haarlem. The artist's early works are influenced by Peter Klass and Vincent Laurensz van der Vinne. In 1667, Collier moved to Leiden, where in 1673 he joined the Guild of Saint Luke. Thirteen years later, the artist moved to Amsterdam, and in 1693 - to London, where he lived for almost ten years. In 1702, Collier returned to Leiden, where he worked productively for four years. However, due to circumstances, the artist was forced to move to London again. There in 1708 Evert Collier died and was buried in the cemetery of St. James Church on Piccadilly Street.
