About the artist: Representative of the Leningrad school of graphics. Exhibitor of the associations “World of Art”, “Workshop of Artists”, “New Union of Traveling Exhibitions”. He took lessons from P.P. Chistyakova, studied in a private studio V.E. Savinsky and in the New Art Studio at B.M. Kustodieva, E.E. Lanceray, M.V. Dobuzhinsky. He studied at the Academy of Arts (1913-1922) in the workshop of D. N. Kardovsky. Since 1923, he collaborated with the satirical magazines Laughter, Hippopotamus, Crocodile, and illustrated children's books. He illustrated the novels by E. Zola ("The rout", "Nana"), short stories and novels by Guy de Maupassant ("Pyshka", "Dear Friend", "Life" and others), "Eugene Onegin" (1934), the novel L. N. Tolstoy's “War and Peace” (1941-1948) and others. Gradually moved on to easel graphics, created the cycles “Nepmans” (1928-1932), “West” (1932-1934), “Naked Models.” Taught on graphic branch of INPII-IZHSA in Leningrad (1930-1949).
He created sketches of costumes and makeup for theatrical productions. The artist's works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many regional museums.
