The painting titled "City Streets", created with oil on canvas, captures the interplay of light and shadow in an urban setting. The artist uses a dynamic composition to explore the relationship between architectural forms and the natural environment, creating an evocative atmosphere that highlights the passage of time.At the heart of the composition stands a silhouette of a building, its sharp spires and angular roofline clearly outlined against a vibrant, glowing sky. The darkened structure, painted in deep blacks and browns, contrasts starkly with the brilliance of the sun, which radiates in exaggerated, luminous rays. This contrast not only emphasizes the sun's dominance in the scene but also suggests a fleeting moment where the light overtakes the shadows. The foreground features cobblestone streets, depicted with textured brushstrokes that add depth and tactile realism to the scene. The cobblestones reflect the golden light of the sun, creating a shimmering pathway that leads the viewer’s gaze into the distance. The reflection appears almost fluid, blurring the boundaries between solid ground and ephemeral light.Scattered across the composition are subtle hints of color—warm yellows and oranges in the sunlight, a soft blue in the sky, and the dark green of nearby trees. These elements bring balance to the stark contrast of the black silhouette, offering a sense of warmth and life to the otherwise somber tones.Through "City Streets," the artist communicates a sense of stillness and introspection. The painting evokes the quiet beauty of a city caught between day and night, where the light holds a fleeting power over the darkness. The exaggerated radiance of the sun suggests themes of hope, renewal, and the enduring presence of nature amidst man-made structures. The work invites the viewer to reflect on the passage of time and the subtle interplay of light and shadow in their own lives, encouraging them to find beauty in fleeting moments of contrast and harmony.

About the artists: Oleksiyander Gukalov
After graduating from Lviv Polytechnic, he was engaged in scientific work. In his free time, he studied the works of Plato, the poetry of the ancient East, and religious works. At this time, resistance to the routine of life and utilitarian science arose in him; he became interested in man and his secrets. Oleksiyander decided to end his engineering career and become a humanitarian. Since 1990, he began to write and publish philosophical poems. Later he decided to devote himself to painting, a passion for which began during his years of study at the Lviv Polytechnic with caricatures and caricatures of classmates and teachers.
Since 2017 he has been painting with oil paints. Oleksiyander does not have a formal art education, but he is convinced that the craft and talent of an artist do not directly depend on professional education. The artist's works are characterized by completeness of composition and depth of meaning. He is not afraid to work with different themes, his paintings are true modern art that touches people. The artist’s portfolio includes landscapes and views of his favorite cities, portraits of pop stars, politicians, athletes, relatives, and animals. “I draw a toga when I feel the need for it. Therefore, I cannot say that I work in some narrow direction. Rather, it is a call from the soul,” the artist says about himself.
