Dynamic Impasto Technique

The oil painting "Cool" is a masterful impressionistic landscape that uses a vivid tapestry of colors to portray the serene beauty of a rugged terrain. Alex Ivanyuk employs a thick impasto technique, giving the canvas a dynamic three-dimensional texture that invites the viewer to experience the painting's surface as if it were part of the natural landscape itself.

A Rich, Textured Foreground

In the foreground, Ivanyuk captures the essence of a cool, shadowy ground using a mosaic of earthy browns, dark greens, and purples, reminiscent of a landscape perhaps just after rain or under the subdued light of twilight. Interspersed among these somber tones are bursts of lavender and pink, suggesting the presence of wildflowers or the shimmer of wet stones, adding depth and a hint of color to the otherwise cool palette.

Contrasting Midground and Warmth of Dwelling

Rising above the foreground are rolling hills or rock formations depicted in deep, rich browns touched with black, creating a stark contrast against the softer colors below. The heavy application of paint on these elements adds a sculptural quality, emphasizing their solidity. Nestled within these formations, simple geometric shapes and strokes of yellow and orange suggest small structures or houses, catching the last rays of the sun or glowing with internal lights, providing a warm contrast to the coolness of the surrounding landscape.

A Serene and Expansive Sky

The sky, painted in tranquil blues, whites, and subtle purples, stretches expansively above the landscape. The smooth and blended brushwork in the sky contrasts sharply with the textured land below, enhancing the sense of calm vastness that defines the painting.

Artistic Expression of Natural Transition

"Cool" captures a landscape in transition, where the warmth of day gives way to the cool of evening, reflecting the natural beauty and solitude of the setting. The painting invites contemplation of the peaceful moments at day's end, where the coolness is both literal and atmospheric.
