About the artist: An outstanding Ukrainian artist and teacher. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.
Karp Demyanovich Trokhimenko was born on October 25, 1885 in the village of Sushchany in the Kiev region in the family of a rural clerk.
He received his first drawing lessons in a craft painting workshop in Kiev. Later he studied at the drawing school of N.I. Goosebumps.
From 1902 to 1905 he studied at the Kiev Art College with I. Seleznev.
From 1906 to 1907 - at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at N. A. Kasatkin.
From 1910 to 1916 Trokhimenko K.D. studying at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where his teacher was N. S. Samokish, a prominent battle painter and teacher.
In 1915, along with other students of N. S. Samokish, together with his teacher, he went to the Western, and then to the Black Sea and Caucasian fronts to perform studies and sketches, which were published in the magazines Lukomorye and Sun of Russia.
After graduating from the academy, Trohimenko went to the Caucasian front as an ordinary private Life Guard. While in the army, he created compositions in which he recreated military operations and the life of Russian soldiers.
Since 1918, he worked in Kiev in the Commission for the Protection of Antiquities and Art.
In 1918-1919 he taught drawing at the higher railway school, in 1920-1923 - at the school in Sushchan, in 1923-1925 he was the head of the labor school in Kagarlyk, in 1925-1926 he taught at the factory of factory apprenticeship at the sugar factory in Rzhishchev.
From 1926 to 1931, K.D. Trokhimenko - member and secretary of the AHKU (Association of Artists of the Red Ukraine).
In 1926-1933 he taught at the Kiev industrial vocational school, and later - at the Kiev art college.
In 1933-1974 he was a teacher at the Kiev Art Institute, from 1938 - the head of the department of composition and the head of the workshop of battle and historical painting, from 1939 - professor.
Master of genre, historical and landscape painting.
In 1944 Trokhimenko was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.
Since 1918, the works of Karp Demyanovich began to be exhibited at art exhibitions, from 1926 - at the republican, from 1927 - at the All-Union, since 1928 - at the international.
In 1968, a personal exhibition of the artist took place in Kiev.
In 1969, Karp Demyanovich was awarded the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR named after Taras Shevchenko for the creation of paintings and illustrations on the Shevchenko theme and for the series of paintings "My Homeland".
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR, other orders and medals.
The artist died on October 1, 1979 in Kiev.
The works of K. Trokhimenka are in art museums, galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
