About the artist: Outstanding Ukrainian painter and graphic artist.
Yakov Aleksandrovich Basov was born on February 2, 1914 in Simferopol. Painting and art education began in the studio of the academician of painting N.S. Samokish.
In 1933-1937 he studied at the Academy of Arts of the city of St. Petersburg. In 1941-1946 he served in the Soviet Army, participated in the Great Patriotic War.
Since 1946 he lived and worked in the Crimea - in Alupka and Yalta.
People's Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Honorary Citizen of the city of Alupka, where he worked with inspiration for more than 50 years and where, in 1997, based on a collection of paintings donated to the city, the City Museum of Artist Painting was opened.
The artist's works were exhibited at 63 solo and numerous collective exhibitions in Ukraine, in Russia, at 37 exhibitions in 22 countries, including Canada, Holland, Norway, Austria, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Poland. USA, Italy, Spain, England. France, are stored in collections of 42 museums, and numerous private collections.
