About the artist: Fritz (baptized name: Friedrich Wilhelm Maximilian Theodor) was born the fourth child of the pharmacist Johann Paul Krauss from Straubing and his wife Maria Auguste, née Dietsch, from Marktbreit, in 1874 in Stadtprozelten am Main. The father ran the city pharmacy, which had existed since 1816, from 1870 to 1875. [1] In 1884 the 10-year-old moved from Bamberg to Munich with the family. No information is currently available about his school education. In 1893 he was listed as an assistant magistrate, later as a "retired second-class clerk and painter" when he adopted the artist name "Halberg-Krauss" around 1900. He presumably trained himself as a landscape painter, but there are clear influences from the work of the painters Josef Wenglein and Eduard Schleich the Elder, but also other well-known artists from the Munich School, such as August Fink, Adolf Lier and August Seidel.

In 1906 he married Stephanie Schmitt, but the marriage did not last long: just two years later, he entered into a second marriage with Ludowika Rosenberger. The son Richard was born in 1908. He lived with the family in Munich-Neuhausen, interrupted by a longer, war-related stay in Bad Endorf from 1940 to 1945. After a long illness, he died at the age of 77 in the Prien am Chiemsee hospital.
