About the artist: Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. American artist and writer aphorist.
Mikhail Saulovich Turovsky was born on May 8, 1933 in Kiev.
At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (in July 1941), his father volunteered for the front and died in 1943.
Mikhail Turovsky was evacuated to Samarkand with his mother and older brother Anatoly (later a sculptor).
In Samarkand he entered an art school.
After returning from evacuation, he studied at the Kiev Republican Art School.
From 1954 to 1960 he studied at the Kiev State Art Institute, specializing in graphics. The teacher is A.S. Pashchenko.
From 1960 to 1963, Mikhail Turovsky continued his studies at the Creative Workshops of the USSR Academy of Arts under the guidance of M.G. Deregus.
Works in the field of painting, easel and book graphics.
Participant of republican, all-union and foreign art exhibitions.
Since 1978 he has been living and working in New York.
Major works:
- graphics: "Pages of Struggle" (lithograph, 1960), "V. I. Lenin "(engraving on hardboard, 1970);
- book graphics: illustrations for the works of V. Stefanyk "Sons" and "Maple Leaves" (1966), L. Ukrainka "Forest Song" (etching, 1967), for A. Blok's poem "Twelve" (engraving on cardboard, 1967) , to the collection of I. Franko “The Eternal Revolutionary. Poems "(1969), a series of illustrations to the works of I. R. Becher (1969), a portrait of the sculptor I. Kavaleridze (1976);
- painting - "Death of a bullfighter" (1991), "Female image" (1991), etc.
Foreign member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (2009).
People's Artist of Ukraine.
