About the artist: Kharkov artist Shmatko Leonid Aleksandrovich Born on February 14 (March 12?) 1917 in Kharkov. Graduated: Kharkov State Art Institute (1937-1941; 1946-1949). Teachers in the specialty: S. Prokhorov, A. Kokel, S. Besedin. Painter, artist of monumental art. He worked in the easel painting industry, specializing in thematic paintings. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1951. Honored Artist of Ukraine (since 1977). Participated in exhibitions: republican since 1949, all-Union since 1950. Important exhibitions "All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow. 1950. Awarded with medals. Major works: “Voice of the world” (1951) ”; To Sich ”,“ Report of V. I. Lenin on the GOELRO Plan ”(1957); diorama "Kharkov Fortress" (co-authored with J. Karasem) and others. He lived and worked in Kharkov, died on March 4, 1981 (1983?)
