About the artist: Born in the family of a veterinarian. In 1905 he graduated from the Sumy real school. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1906-1911), where he met with M. Larionov, N. Goncharova, D. Burliuk, V. Mayakovsky. In 1911 he was expelled, as he himself wrote, "for denying school dogma and discipline."

Since 1911 he studied at the School of Drawing at the Academy of Arts and the Higher Art School at the Academy of Arts, from where he was also expelled [1].

With the outbreak of World War I, the ensign in the army. In 1916, with special forces in France, then, while in the Russian Expeditionary Force, he fought in Thessaloniki.

Since 1917 he lived in Paris, painted, theoretical articles on painting. Participated in Paris exhibitions. In 1923, V.V. Mayakovsky wrote about him in his Parisian essay: “I was in the workshop of Bart, a very familiar artist before the war, a serious man with great talent, in his tiny celestial atelier, I saw dozens of undoubtedly interesting works and compared to any Frenchman ”[2].

In 1925, together with Soviet artists, he designed the USSR pavilion at the international Paris exhibition.

In 1936 he returned to the USSR.
