About the artist: Born on September 25 (October 8), 1901 in the village of Russian Lozovaya, now Dergachevsky district, Kharkov region. Graduated from Kharkov Art Institute (1929). Teachers by specialty - M. Sharonov, A. Kokel, S. Prokhorov. Painter, graphic artist, teacher. He worked in the industry of easel painting and graphics. Artist of a realistic direction. Master of historical compositions of a narrative nature and numerical psychological portraits of contemporaries and prominent cultural figures. In painting, he adhered to the tonal system and developed the coloristic finds of Russian masters of the early twentieth century. Member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine (1938). Honored Artist of the USSR (1970). Received state awards of the USSR. Member of the CPSU. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, medals and Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR. He worked at the Kharkov Art Institute: teacher, 1944-48 - rector, 1948-60 - head of the department of drawing, 1960-91 - professor, head of the department of painting. In 1935 he was transferred to work in the personal creative workshop of N. Samokish, where he worked until 1941. He participated in exhibitions: republican (1932), all-union (1939), personal - in the city of Kharkov (1972; 1996; 2001, retrospective). At the international exhibition of lithography in Vienna, received the second prize for a portrait of N. Ostrovsky (1962). He is the author of a number of articles published in the journal Znamya: “Artist of Truth (about T. Shevchenko)” (1964, No. 3), “Unforgettable (about N. Samokish)” (1976, No. 10-12), “The Sower of the Beautiful ( about V. M. Chernov) ”(1977, No. 8) and others. The main works: painting - “Leniniana” (1927–75), “Zhukovsky at the bedside of the wounded A. S. Pushkin” (1937); portraits - Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR, USSR State Prize Laureate, Academician M. S. Samokish (1939), People's Artist of the USSR I. O. Maryanenok (1947), artist M. Ashikhman (1947), Natasha (1949), writer Petra Pancha (1952), “Collective Farm Girl” (1959), T. Shevchenko (1960), “V. I. Lenin and N. K.
