About the artist: He graduated from the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts in the workshop of I. E. Repin, later returned to Kazan and taught at the Kazan Art School, now bearing his name. In 1916 he was elected an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. In 1923 he emigrated with his family to the United States, where he lived until his death in 1955. In 1976, her daughter, an American ballerina, art therapist and art critic Iya Nikolaevna Feshina (1914-2002), reburied her father's ashes in Kazan. Feshin was quite famous in Russia and the USSR, in the USA he is considered a national American painter. He created more than two thousand works that are in the collections of more than thirty museums in the United States, not counting private collections. The largest collection of works by Nikolai Feshin in Russia (189) is located in the Museum of Fine Arts of Tatarstan (Khazine Art Gallery in the Kazan Kremlin). His work is also represented in the museums of St. Petersburg, Cheboksary, Kozmodemyansk, Kirov, in private collections.
