About the artist: Vladimir Melnikov was born on October 9, 1938 in the city of Krasnogvardeisk, Leningrad Region. His father, Sergei Ivanovich, at that time a cadet of the Gatchina Aviation School, then an officer, fought bravely on the fronts of Spain and died in 1944 on the fields of the First Belorussian Front. The artist's mother, Nina Andreevna, was the daughter of a well-known in the Vitebsk region, the folk healer Andrei Prishchepionok, was born into a large family in the village of Zapolye, Polotsk region. According to the stories of the mother, the great-grandfather was a wealthy landowner, he kept four driving horses. The remains of the foundations of his former estate have been preserved in the village of Migulino to this day.
