About the artist: Otryshko Yarema Oleksandrovych was born in 1840 in the village of Velyki Budky, Khmeliv Volost, Romen District, Poltava Governorate, now Romen District, Sumy Region, in a Cossack family. In 1913, Yarema Otryshko went to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to study icon painting.
lived in Romny, where he taught drawing in a real school. The artist painted a number of Romanesque churches. He painted murals in the Alexander Nevsky Church in Romny (1890-1891). He painted icons for churches in the city of Romny, the villages of Pustovijtivka, Vovkivtsi, and Korzhi.
Yarema Oleksandrovych created portraits and landscapes. Otryshko Yarema wrote "The Roman Madonna" (1911), "The Apparition of the Mother of God in the August Woods" (1914). The artist's paintings are defined by a well-thought-out composition, professional modeling, clear rhythm of lines and rich color. Yarema Otryshka's portraits are full of the natural dignity of people.
