In Ruins of Civilization, Alexander Strashevich depicts a scene of quiet desolation, where a broken classical column and a sculpted head lie partially submerged by the sea, with a seagull perched atop the fallen column. The painting juxtaposes the remnants of ancient civilization with the unchanging beauty of nature, symbolizing the inevitable passage of time and the transient nature of human achievements. Strashevich invites viewers to reflect on the endurance of nature versus the fragility of civilization, as well as the cycles of rise and decay that shape human history.
