About the artist: Born in the town of Korna near Kiev, in the family of an artisan worker. After the death of his parents, he ended up in a Kiev orphanage. Drawing attention to his ability to draw, the heads of the orphanage sent Shaya Bronstein to study at the Kiev Art College. After graduating from the technical school, the artist went to Leningrad and entered the Academy of Arts, where he studied with K.S. Petrov-Vodkin for about a year, however, due to illness, he left his studies.
Participant of art exhibitions since 1927.
In the early 30s he moved to Moscow, collaborated with various publishing houses.
From 1935 to 1941 he studied at the department of advanced training of the Moscow State Art Institute under A. N. Usachev and G. V. Fedorov. In the same years, he was engaged in woodcutting, linoleum engraving and lithography, attending the studio organized at the City Committee of Graphic Artists under the leadership of V.A. Favorsky.
In the 1940-1941 season, he completed an internship at GOSET (Moscow State Jewish Theater). With the beginning of the war, he worked on the camouflage of military objects, in 1942 - the evacuation to Tashkent, where he leads a brigade for the design of various objects. After the end of the war he returned to Moscow.
From the mid-1950s printmaking predominated in the artist's graphics.
