About the artist: Russian painter from the circle “Jack of Diamonds”. He visited the studio of L.E. Dmitriev-Kavkazsky (1902–1910) in St. Petersburg and K.F. Yuona (1904–1906) in Moscow, studied at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1906–1910).
In 1913–1914 traveled to Italy and France. He experienced the profound impact of the art of P. Cezanne. He was a member and one of the organizers of the association “Jack of Diamonds” (since 1910), was influenced by the painting of I.I. Mashkov. He was one of the most consistent Russian cezannists. He was a member of the associations "Moscow painters" and "Society of Moscow artists." In the second half of the 1910s - 1920s. cubist tendencies become tangible in the artist’s works. Since the 1930s Kuprin works mainly in the genre of landscape, writes views of the Crimea, industrial landscapes.
He taught at the Free Art Workshops of Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Sormovo (1918–1922), at VKHUTEMAS-VKHUTEIN, at the Moscow Higher Artistic and Industrial School and other institutes until 1952.
