About the artist: Konstantin Vasilyevich Zaruba (born October 30, 1910, Kefaline; died July 28, 1998, Kyiv) is a Ukrainian painter. member of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine since 1947. Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Ukrainian SSR since 1974. Husband of the artist Natalia Zaruba, father of the artist Irina Zaruba.
Member of the CPSU (b) since 1932. From 1932 he worked for the Perets magazine: from 1941 to 1947 he was the head of the art department. In 1933 he studied at the Faculty of Arts of the Kharkiv Art Institute under Ivan Shulga. From 1933 to 1936 he worked as the head of the art department and editor of the newspaper Komsomolets Ukrainy; since 1941 he has collaborated with the Periwinkle magazine, with the Kyiv publishing houses Molod, Dnipro, and Soviet Ukraine. Simultaneously with his work during 1936-1941 he studied at the Kyiv Art Institute.
In the Red Army since 1941. During the German-Soviet war he worked as a captain in the military rank of the army newspaper Znamya Rodiny. He painted portraits of soldiers, combat episodes. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star (November 6, 1945), medals "For Merit in Battle" (November 8, 1943), "For the Defense of the Caucasus" (May 1, 1944), "For Victory over Germany" (May 9, 1945).
