About the artist: In 1918, in Petrograd, Volkov was engaged in the decoration of the city on the anniversary of the October Revolution (sketches of the panel "All Power to the Soviets", "Winter Assault"). Sketches of this holiday are in the State Russian Museum.
Since 1919 he moved to Belarus, where he taught at the Velizh folk art school (1919-1929), at the Vitebsk art college (1923-1929).
In 1926, Volkov participated in the competition for the creation of the Belarusian coat of arms and won it. He designed the station at the Negoreloye station, the multi-figured frieze “October in Belarus” in the pavilion of the BSSR at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow (1939).
His huge composition (Minsk, July 3, 1944) (1946-1953) [2] gained wide fame.
In 1955, the artist received the title of People's Artist of the BSSR [2].
Valentin Volkov painted portraits (M. Gorky, Y. Kupala, etc.), designed books of Belarusian poets (Y. Kupala and Y. Kolas). For many years he was a teacher, taught at the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute (1953-1964).
One of the first in Belarusian painting made the image of Lenin (portrait, 1926). Author of the works “Industrialization”, “Collectivization”, “Kastus Kalinovsky”, “Barricade” (1923), “Hammer Fighter” (1926), “Partisans” (1928), “Transfer of Experience” (1937), “Students” (1947) .
