About the artist: Born on May 8 (20), 1899 in the city of Kursk. Graduated from: Kharkov Art School (1915-1917), Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (1920-1925). Teacher by profession - V. Favorsky. Painter, graphic artist, muralist (mosaic designer for the Moscow metro), sculptor. One of the outstanding artists in the 1920s-1930s, a key figure in Soviet art. Hero of Socialist Labor (1969). Received the Lenin Prize (1964) and State awards. People's Artist of the USSR (1963). Member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947); Vice President (1962-1966). Taught: Taught at the Higher Art College (1928-1930), at the Moscow Polytechnic Institute (1928-1934), at the Moscow Art Institute (1934-1946), at the Moscow Architectural Institute (1953-1957). Participated in art exhibitions (1924).
