About the artist: Valentin Augustovich Feldman was born in 1864 near St. Petersburg in the family of a county agronomist. In 1882, having passed excellent entrance tests, he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in the architectural department. He studied watercolor painting with professors Gogolinsky and Premazzi. After graduating from the Academy, he worked as an assistant architect for the famous Moscow professor of architecture Pomerantsev.
Since 1890 he was a full member of the Partnership of Russian Watercolorists, later - the Kuindzhi Society. He participated in exhibitions of watercolor painting in St. Petersburg, Kiev, Kharkov, Sevastopol, Odessa. V.A. Feldman is the author of 800 works - drawings and sketches, as well as several books on the theory and practice of watercolor painting.
From 1891 to 1905 he worked in Sevastopol. For fourteen years of work in the Crimea, he created a large number of architectural structures [1]. While in Sevastopol, he lived on the street. Chesmenskaya, 24, in the house of Princess Shirinskaya - now Sovetskaya Street, on Soborna Street, 10 (since 1899) - now Suvorova Street and on Pologoy Descent, 14 (1905) - now Vasily Kucher Street [2].
In 1905, Feldman moved to Kharkov. It was there that he began teaching - in 1906-1910 at the Institute of Technology he taught architectural drawing. The author of the project of the House of Shapar [3].
After moving to Kiev, Valentin Augustovich continued his pedagogical activities at the Polytechnic (1910-1922), architectural (1922-1924) and art (1924-1926) institutes. (Among the students were subsequently famous architect I. Karakis [4] and sculptor G. Vasilevich). Member of the Society of Kiev Artists (1914-1919), founding member of the Kiev Association of Artists (1916-1918). He worked on theoretical issues of color and light in painting.
